Treat your “Love” to a gourmet dinner at home this Valentine’s Day!
Nothing could be more romantic than cooking a beautiful meal for someone special. When you cook for someone it truly shows that you care.
That being said…cooking a steak perfectly can be intimidating. Well, the wonderful thing about a filet mignon is that it cooks quickly and will stay juicy, if you sear it in a cast iron or stainless skillet and then transfer it to the oven to finish cooking.
I promise you…this is super simple!

Follow the link below if you’d like to make the oven baked frites….they are the perfect compliment to this steak.

- The Butcher sent me home with these beautiful Prime Filet Mignon Steaks (about inch and a quarter thick). I used fresh ground salt and pepper to season them well, on both sides.
- Pre-heat your oven to 375 degrees fahrenheit. On the stove top heat your cast iron or stainless skillet over medium high heat. (about 3-4 minutes) Add one tablespoon of butter and one or two tablespoons of olive oil.
- When the butter has melted, add the steaks to sear about 4 minutes per side.
- Take another minute or so to sear each edge of the steak in the butter.
- Transfer the entire skillet to the oven to finish cooking. About another 10 minutes depending on the thickness of your steaks. These were about inch and a quarter thick.
- Everyone seems to have their own preference for steak doneness . I removed these steaks from the oven at 135 degrees and found that they were medium rare….so use your judgment, but definitely use a meat thermometer to monitor the internal temperature. (about 140 for medium, 145 for well)
- When the filet has reached your desired doneness, set it on the counter for 5 minutes or so while you get the side dishes together.
- A beautiful steak dinner for your Valentine:)
- Serve with oven frites and your favorite steak sauce.
- You will have a Happy Valentines Day!
Not much better than a little steak-frites! Looks really yummy!
