Who can resist a fresh caprese salad? The combination of fresh mozzarella cheese, fresh tomatoes and a great quality olive oil are the perfect starter to any meal.
For Valentine’s Day make this classic combination extra special by using heart-shaped cookie cutters to put a cute twist on it….That someone special will surely appreciate it:)
To make two salads:
One ball of fresh mozzarella cheese, 2 ripe tomatoes ( I used plum, but you could also use vine ripened)
Use a sharp knife to slice the mozzarella into slices about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick.
Use a heart shaped cookie cutter to make heart shaped cheese!
I used three different sizes for a fun look.
These hearts all came from one ball of mozzarella.
I used Plum tomatoes cut on an angle for longer slices. Use whichever tomatoes you find that are the ripest.
Arrange the cheese and tomatoes on a pretty plate.
Season with a little bit of fresh salt and pepper.
I added a drizzle of Olive Oil and some fresh Thyme, but you could also add a drizzle of balsamic glaze instead.
