“I’m just a Mother”….I answered…when asked what my occupation was…
“Mothers are the most important people” …he replied…without hesitation….
~Wow~
…it took me a moment….
We learn so much from our Mothers….so much more than we can ever realize…most of who we are …we owe to our Mothers, or to those who have been “Like a Mother” to us.
Being a Mother…I now know how much time and effort we put into our family. Our ultimate goal is to have happy, healthy children…but that doesn’t just happen. It takes hours and hours of thought, work, encouragement and energy…..I just don’t think that our Mothers ever told us it was hard work! They made it look so easy….
My Mother left us too soon….too soon for me to realize …how hard it is to be a Mother….and how much credit a Mother deserves….but I am lucky enough to have a wonderful Mother-in-law and Grandmother-in-Law…who are here to remind me, that we will one day, miss these days…and be looking for that “Merry-go-round” of life.
As a Mother the list of credentials can include , Administrative Assistant, Baker, Banker, Beautician, Bookkeeper, Dietician, Psychologist, Nurse, House Manager, Cruise Director, Chauffeur, Housekeeper, Short Order Cook, Personal Shopper, Family Historian, Archivist, Secretary, Referee, Security Guard, Event Planner, Gardener, Quality Inspector…just to name a few…and all these things learned on the job, of course.
Luckily the list of benefits include …unconditional love and affection…innocent encouragement when we need it most…the most gratifying and profoundly rewarding profession you will ever take on…complete with lots of hugs and laughs and adorable handmade sentiments. One of my boys made me a card with the following words. “My love for you is like two million hearts, bunnies and candy. You are the best mom. I love you!”
Tell me where else, will we ever feel, that magnitude of love.
All of these benefits probably encompass the one reason…why my Mother never said it was hard…
Anything worth anything…is hard.
So now…when asked my occupation…I proudly reply…
I am a Mother ~
The following is a thought I read in a little hallmark book~
Don’t forget to lift your eyes away from the keyboard now and then to see how blue the sky is.
Don’t forget to put away the cell and spend some time with paintbrush, pen or guitar.
Don’t forget to seek the blessing of silence amid the rush and noise of life.
And remember always that the secret of success is how happily you climb…not how high.
Wishing all of my fellow Mothers…and those who are “Like a Mother”….a beautiful day celebrating you and the wonderful honor of Motherhood~
