Those of you who know me, are aware that I love fruit! I craved pineapple when I was pregnant with the boys, and always travel with little clementines in my purse.
A favorite apple of mine is the Pink Lady. They have a beautiful pink skin and their crisp sweet taste is just delicious. They are a fantastic apple to use in sauce, since they don’t get too mushy. I added a little bit of sugar, but I bet you could omit it, if you are trying to keep things healthy.
This Pink lady Pear Sauce, also uses another favorite fruit, the mini Secklund Pears. They are just super cute and delicious. They give this apple sauce a nice little spin. Once you realize how simple it is to make fresh applesauce, you will never again purchase it in a jar!
Click through the gallery for complete how to:
- You will need five Pink Lady Apples, five little Secklund pears, three large cinnamon sticks, half a lemon peel, quarter cup of granulated sugar and about a cup and three quarters of water.
- Peel and core the apples and pears. Dice to small cubes.
- I started out adding a cup and a half of water, but added another half cup during the simmer.
- Combine all ingredients in a medium size pot.
- Cover and simmer over medium heat for about 40 minutes.
- If you notice that the apples are looking dry, add a little more water. When the mixture has cooked down, remove the cinnamon and lemon peel and gently stir together with a fork. I prefer to have little chunks of pear and apple.
- Serve this Pink Lady Pear Sauce warm, alongside Lita’s Latkes for a special hanukkah treat!
